ATU Local 1700 Legislative Priorities
- Federal law should not exempt over-the-road bus companies from paying drivers for all hours on the jon or from time and a half pay after 40 hours. End the unfair exemption of over-the-road drivers from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
- Adopt reasonable regulations for the intercity bus industry to rebuild nationwide bus service and stop cut-throuat competition, making our jobs, our equipment, and the highways safer for America.
- Make federal regulations work for workers, not bosses. Reform FMCSA hours-of-service regulations to make sure bus drivers get enough time off and still make a decent living.
- Stop forcing working families to pay out of pocket for essential health care. Enact legislation that provides for top-quality medical for all.
- All workers should have the right to a secure retirement. Enact legislation to reverse the decline in defined-benefit pension plans.
- Restore workers' freedom to form unions and bargain by passing the Employee Free Choice Act.
